My puppy has hip dysplasia.

HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH EXERCISE?

For many years the veterinary profession has advocated for a limited amount of exercise for growing dogs, especially the large and giant breeds.

However, as I see more and more puppies with hip issues, I am wondering if a structured exercise program actually supports puppy development.

Nobody told me that there would be exercise!!

We know that bone density is directly related to weight bearing activity and there have been studies that support rough and tumble play for puppies in the first 12 weeks of life being significant for hip development.

The healthy puppy development is also a complicated and multifactorial process. Play, exercise, socialisation and a good puppy preschool class are central to healthy and normal development.

Can’t I go outside and play with my friends??
